Diary of a 2009 Street Triple R

April 15, 2009 - Delivery Day

Here's my S3 just an hour after I drove it off the dealer lot. I think the odometer said 24. It's already got the Arrow 3 -> 1 exhaust, as I had the dealer put that on.

April 25, 2009 - Mods Complete

Today I completed the "must do" mods. These mods consist of:

  1. No more fender. I built my own aluminum brackets to remount the rear turn signals under the seat. I also have a bracket for the license plate, but I'm not going to put the bracket on the bike until the plate comes in the mail. NOTE: When I disconnected all the wires to remove the fender, I failed to initially notice that I'd also disconnected the air pressure sensor that is mounted in the fender. When I started the bike, the engine warning light came on. Took me a bit of fooling around to realize that it wasn't the missing lights, but rather this missing sensor. I plugged the sensor back in and then (by Googling) learned that the light should go off after a couple of warm up cycles. Happily, it did indeed.

  2. Stock mirrors replaced with CRG LS bar ends. This mod included replacing the original clutch lever mounting plate that includes the left mirror mount with the Daytona version of the part that does not include the mirror mount. I also filled the hole that the right mirror came out of with a matching black bolt.

  3. Replaced the front reflectors with plain bolts like the ones filling the other set of holes on the front fender.

  4. And, just to make the mod list complete, the 3 -> 1 Arrow exhaust installed at the dealer:

And so here's what my new friend looks like now:
